2011 Mitsubishi Eclipse Info

 Overview:

The 2011 Mitsubishi Eclipse, now entering its sixth year in this current configuration, continues to have a steady rise in sales. One reason for this is obvious: The Eclipse's curvaceous good looks, reasonable price tag and impressive performance and handling make it a highly desirable choice. A bit less obvious, but still a factor, is that, currently, the only other front-wheel-drive, two-door hatchbacks offering similar performance and value are the Volkswagen GTI, Volvo C30 and MINI Cooper S, none of which can come close to matching the Eclipse's potent horsepower figures.

The Eclipse Coupe is no longer the turbocharged all-wheel-drive boy-racer it once was. Today's Eclipse has matured, engineered for the middle-of-the-road sporty driver. This is not to say the Eclipse is without some very sporty driving characteristics. Both engines provide plenty of low-end torque -- a plus when the light turns green and you've got to get across the intersection and then into another lane, for example.

For 2011, the Mitsubishi Eclipse receives a black painted roof, lower ride height, and 12-volt accessory outlet in the center console. The GS-Sport now receives leather seating surfaces, heated front seats and side mirrors, clear lip spoiler, power driver seat, aluminum pedals, and strut tower bar.

Trim Levels:
As has been the case in past Eclipse designs, the interior of the current coupe delivers on the promises made by its sporty exterior. An abundance of glass, coupled with more interior space, goes a long way toward alleviating feelings of claustrophobia. Still, the curved dash is designed with such a slant that it almost seems to give off a sensation of movement. Interior fit and finish is tight, and there is hardly a trace of inferior plastic materials. The well-bolstered sport bucket front seats work well for enthusiastic driving, but are still comfy enough for long road trips. The side airbag on the passenger's seat has a weight sensor that prevents the bag from deploying when the seat is occupied by a child.

The 2011 Mitsubishi Eclipse is available in 3 trims: GS, GS Sport, and GT. The GS includes a high level of standard equipment, including Air Conditioning; Power Windows, Locks & Side Mirrors; Dual exhaust outlets with polished exhaust tips; Integrated clear and chrome rear spoiler; Ice-blue LED illumination of instruments and controls; Lowered sport-tuned suspension; Tilt steering column with sport-wrapped steering wheel; Cruise control; Split folding rear seats; a great-sounding CD/MP3 audio system; Day-night rear-view mirror; Dual advanced front airbags with seat position and occupant sensors; Front seat-mounted side airbags; Roof-mounted curtain airbags; Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS); an Anti-theft alarm system with remote keyless entry; and 18" Alloy Wheels.

Step up to the GS Sport Package, and you'll be treated to a host of upgrades for just a little less money; including: High-Intensity Discharge (HID) Headlamps; Heated Front Seating with Leather Surfaces and a 6-Way Power Driver's Seat. You'll also access to the Optional Sun & Sport Package which includes a 650-watt (max.) Rockford-Fosgate 6-CD/MP3 audio system; One-Touch Power Sunroof with Vent Feature; Steering-Wheel Mounted Audio Controls; an Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror; and Sirius Satellite Radio with three months pre-paid subscription. With the GS Sport Trim, you can also choose to add the Sport Aero Package which includes a Color-keyed front airdam; Side sill extensions; and a Rear corner airdam.

And for the Performance Fever inside of you, step up to the GT Package and prepare for an incredible rush of adrenaline. It starts with the GT's boulevard-burning 265-Horsepower 3.8 V6 Engine coupled to a 5-Speed Sportronic Automatic Transmission - and then adds a host of Luxury and Sport Amenities including Heated Front Seating with Leather Surfaces and a 6-Way Power Driver's Seat; a 650-watt (max.) Rockford-Fosgate 6-CD/MP3 audio system; One-Touch Power Sunroof with Vent Feature; Steering-Wheel Mounted Audio Controls; an Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror; and Sirius Satellite Radio with three months pre-paid subscription.

Powertrains & Performance:
The 2011 Mitsubishi Eclipse is available with two standard engines. The Eclipse GS and GS Sport include the 2.4-liter, 162-horsepower 4-cylinder MIVEC engine mated to a 4-Speed Sportronic Automatic Transmission or a 5-Speed Manual Transmission. This combination provides for an outstanding EPA Rating of 20 mpg city and 28 mpg (27 with the Automatic) on the highway.

The 2011 Mitsubishi Eclipse in GT form includes the 265-Horsepower 3.8 V6 Engine coupled to a 5-Speed Sportronic Automatic Transmission. This combination also produces excellent EPA Fuel Ratings of up to 24 mpg on the highway.

Safety:

Sometimes the things that make a high-performance car are the same things that make a safer car. A rigid platform. An advanced anti-lock braking system. A sure-footed, nimble-handling vehicle. An advanced airbag system. Eclipse is a unique vehicle that satisfies both your driving passions and your safety needs.

Eclipse's six-airbag safety system includes advanced front SRS airbags, front-seat-mounted side-impact airbags and side-curtain airbags for front seat occupants. All are standard and each was carefully positioned based on extensive crash testing and simulation.

The ABS technology used by the Eclipse helps to eliminate wheel lock-up during panic or emergency braking. Wheel speed is monitored and braking pressure is optimized when impending wheel lock-up is sensed. The system "pulses" the brakes up to 10 times per second, modulating wheel rotation to help eliminate lock-up and maximize driver control.

The Eclipse platform is reinforced in key locations using high-strength steel. Additional cross members in the dash area, cabin floor and roof help maintain cabin rigidity in the event of a side collision. The side sills are then reinforced, along with front and rear sub-frame components, which help minimize deformation due to an offset front impact.

Standard on all Eclipse models, Active Stability Control (ASC) helps by working with the ABS system and engine management to manage power delivery to the front wheels. Together they help keep Eclipse on the driver's intended path in challenging driving conditions.
